Agree with your reasoned synopsis. As a local member of the South African Oil & Gas Alliance (SAOGA) and, a participating member of their Port Cluster Leadership Team (PCLT), agree there needs to be close consultation with all stakeholders in respect of the development of the port of Saldanha. Also feel there are inadequate mechanisms in place to guide the 'hasten slowly' process.

The so-called IDZ is still only a bunch of words on paper. The reality is time may yet see it as simply 'industrial develoment', arising from natural, organic growth of what 'fits' the circumstances and is right for the region, economically, socially & environmentally.

Locally, there is a need for stronger mechanisms/vehicle to be introduced between all port users/stakeholders. Regrettably, Transnet & other government entities, not excluding the local Saldanha Bay Municipality, tend to operate in a vacuum of their own, and it is difficult to align what they are saying with what is actually realising on the ground. More importantly, what can be realistically and sustainably, be realised, to the benefit of the entire region, always taking account of future customers needs and, good stewardship of what we have under our control.

Having recently joined the LRRA, had previously not taken the time to study the content of your website. Most impressive and informative.

Something you may be aware of. Nonetheless. In both the UK and USA wind turbine noise impact on the host community and its residents, even as far as 3 km from a wind farm. The complaint is of sleep disturbance from the noise. Many residents living much closer - 300 m.- from a wind farm are experiencing major sleep disruption and other serious medical problems from nighttime wind turbine noise. There are many studies published in this regards. The peculiar acoustic characteristics of wind turbine noise immissions cause the sounds heard at the receiving properties to be more annoying and troublesome than the more familiar noise from traffic and industrial factories. The residents who are annoyed by wind turbine noise complain of the approximately one (1) second repetitive swoosh-boom-swoosh-boom sound of the turbine blades and “low frequency” noise.

To appeal the process is an absolute must do.
This is irresponsible management of resources and the sooner long term planning prior to allowing large scale development is made the sooner we may have a chance on sustaining the environment.
There are at least 6 large desal. plants planned and I am sure many more are being mooted. This before addressing the core problem is solved.
The world over desal plants are receiving negative reviews and SA is now attempting to solve the water crises using this technology.
Africa, the worlds dumping ground for failed technology.

Good Day

We, The Meeuklip Association(Penguin Place) are mandated to protect and manage our township area which is defined as erf 2096 to erf 2122. We are apposed to the development as indicated in he draft ROR at the LYC site. It currently can hardly handle the parking and traffick in peak season. The area can not handle more. The other proposed nodes will assist in relieving the pressure on LYC.
